Super Advanced Whey Protein question.

Whats sup ya'll? Alright, so i bought this protein powder(Body Fortress super advanced Whey protein) and i need to know what i should mix this with. They say mix with any of my "Favorite" beverage. I want to know if any one recommends a certain thing i should mix it with. I was thinking milk because its vanilla flavored(the portein) or water. Also, I workout in the morning( 6 o'clock) and i wanted to know if i should eat breakfast and take the protein or just take the protein alone. I usally eat a bowl of oatmeal before and after a workout, and also a orange after a workout. Is that alright? Please help me and thanks.

Hey Benji - welcome.....

I’ve seen this protein at wal-mart and from the price alone you would think its a great buy..52g of protein per serving and like 14 bucks for a 2lb tub……I’ve yet to try it but I did some research online and so far its gotten mixed reviews….but for price you’re not gonna find anything close to that.

Now as for your questions:

1. If you are you looking to add some size and gain some weight I would mix your protein with some milk (1% would be my choice) so you not only get the 52g of protein per serving you get an additional 10g per serving of milk you add………..now if you’re using the shakes to add in your weight loss then def use water……..or put in some ice into a blender and make it kinda like a milkshake – so the only calories you are getting is from the powder.

2. I def recommend eating something (small) before you go workout……it’ll fuel your body for your workout and help your body wake up some………..eating oatmeal is fine (IMO) but you could also mix a shake before hand and drink some before/during your workout and then mix another for afterwards…….(depending again on how much protien you’re looking to eat each day.) Eating the oatmeal after the workout is okay too…..the carbs in the oatmeal will help with energy to keep going throughout the day (just remember that whole oatmeal is better for you than that instant stuff…….but the instant stuff does work in a pinch) plus any fruit (oranges in your case) is always a good thing……vitamin C and simple carbs will always be your friend.

Back to the protein for a second though…..as I stated earlier the price is good for those who cant afford the more expensive stuff…..but like the old saying goes….you get what you pay for….so just remember buyer beware because the reason it’s probably so cheap is because they are using cheap ingredients……and if you’re trying to gain muscle/size or trim up and you’re working out hard you might as well go and spend a little more money and buy some better stuff (I like stuff from GNC and bodybuilding.com myself) because if you want your body to look as good as possible, you might as well be putting in the best stuff possible in it…….

just my two cents…….but good luck and keep pluggin away!

you can do whatever you want........

however just remember since you are trying to lose weight adding milk just adds calories……yes you get more protien, but you’re getting more calories…….so just keep that in mind.

oh most definitely........

your body is still repairing itself on your non-workout days so protein is still needed…..you should strive for 1g of protein per lb of body weight daily for optimal muscle gains…..however based on your current size getting 200-225 g of protein should suffice…….and make sure you’re getting soild food proteins too…..chicken and tuna are some cheap and effective ways to get your protein up.

Just adding a word here...

Protein before and after a workout is v. important. Yup, a protein milkshake beforehand is great; the only reason not to would be if it upset your stomach while you’re working out. If not, go for it.

Add protein to your postworkout meal! There’s a smidgen of (grain-based) protein in the oatmeal, but you need something more substantial: egg whites, lean meat or poultry. That’s when your body needs the protein most (and carbs, for that matter, so oatmeal is okay), so don’t skimp: eat something real. Postworkout shake is fine if you’re short on time, but whole food protein is preferable. Good luck and report back to us on how you’re doing! Andrew

Is it alright for me to have two or more protein shakes a day if i'm only 16?

Because I have been told that it can do damage to your kidneys if you over do it, so I only have 1 a day.

yeah like andrew said below your kidneys should be fine.....protein isnt like carbs or fat..which means your body only keeps what it needs.

and the rest of it will be expunged from your body…..however if you are worried about your kidneys one way to ensure healthy kidneys is to drink TONS of water……like 100-120oz a day (maybe even more on training days) for one it will keep your muscles well hydrated and flush your kidneys out….yes you’ll be urinating alot at first but your body will get used to it and actually release more water so you wont be as bloated (weird how that works….but its true)

Also stay away from sugary juices and soda’s……your kidneys will be working hard enough as it is while you are training away and eating protein so no need to overdo it with stuff that really does your body no good……..

Kidney damage is unlikely...

Unless you’re predisposed to it. Everything I’ve read suggests that the kidney-damage thing is exaggerated or completely made up. If you don’t use the protein you ingest, you just excrete it. Two protein shakes a day will not hurt you, and if you’re 16 and just starting your prime muscle building years it’s a darn pretty good idea.

soy milk

If you want to avoid the extra calories (carbs) in milk, but don’t like the taste of water, you can use unsweetened soy milk instead. I’ve heard/read on message boards that there is some concern about increasing estrogen, but I have no idea how credible those concerns are. If anyone has any thoughts on that, I’d be curious to hear them.

Funny meeting you here, Benji!

It’s Rexx from the Beatdown. Came over myself when I saw this blog and even posted a FanPost about HGH. For my two cents, I took Muscle Milk (Chocolate) and thought it worked great. Mixed with just water, it still tasted fantastic! I loved it but it has a lot of calories, although there is a light version, which I haven’t tried. It gave me energy and took away my appetite. Give it a shot and good luck. See you on the Beatdown!
